O’Malley, Vera face off in the ring
UFC 299 is now a moment in history and statements have been made throughout multiple divisions.
In the first fight of the night, Petr Yan took down Song Yadong by way of a decision. This fight proved that although it will be a while before Yan gets a shot at the bantamweight title, he definitely has proven that he still is a contender in the bantamweight division after beating Yadong.
In the second fight of the main card, Gilbert Burns took on Jack Della Maddalena in a fight that was truly upsetting for Burns’ fans all around the UFC.
In the third round of the fight, Maddalena took out Burns in a brutal fashion by way of technical knockout. This fight was a must-win for Burns if he truly wanted to keep climbing the ranks and win a championship and now that he has lost this fight the chances of him becoming champion have truly narrowed.
The third fight of the main card saw the UFC debut of Bellator fighter Michael “Venom” Page taking on Kevin Holland. After what was somewhat of a weird fight, seeing Holland not be able to touch Page at all in some parts of the fight was truly mesmerizing as Page’s fighting style is unique. At the end of round three, Page was the one to get his hand raised by the referee by way of decision in a very interesting bout.
In the co main-event Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier took on strong up-and-comer Benoit Saint-Denis in a fight that truly was slated to be a great one as going into the fight veteran Dustin Poirier was the underdog.
After two rounds of failed standing guillotines for Poirier and tough striking from both fighters, Poirier put an end to the fight 2:32 into the second round with an absolutely vicious right hook that took the rising star Benoit Saint-Denis down giving Poirier the second-round knock out.
The main event of this amazing pay per view was seeing the undisputed Bantamweight Champion “Suga” Sean O’Malley taking on the only man he has ever lost to Marlon “Chito” Vera.
Throughout the fight, O’Malley played a mental game with Chito setting up crazy strikes such as his knee to Chito’s head in the second round.
After five full rounds of nothing but amazing movement and striking from the champ O’Malley, he completely picked Chito apart with two judges scoring the bout 50-45 and one judge even scoring the fight 50-44 in favor of O’Malley meaning Chito didn’t win a single round.
UFC 299 overall was an amazing event with one of the best main cards we’ve seen in a while, and at the end of the night, Suga Sean truly proved why he is the best Bantamweight Champion there is showing why the first fight between him and Chito was a fluke and that the Suga Show is here to stay
