After four great years of late nights, early mornings, Starbucks drinking, and rushing to get stories in before deadline I can truly say it has been the most life changing yet best four years of my life.
I can remember the first time I stepped foot on this campus; it felt so good.
If I had to tell you the truth, I was most excited to be on my own and do whatever I wanted when I wanted to.
Now let’s jump right into my first year, man oh man you can only imagine how iconic it was.
Covid-19 had just kicked off and the university had its own protocols on top of the worldwide protocols so who didn’t love classes completely online and sitting in your dorm most of the day, or having to wear a mask literally everywhere you went?
On the upside as soon as I arrived here, I met the most amazing professor, Nicole Morris, this woman noticed potential in me before I could see it in myself.
I wasn’t very educated on my major and everything it offered but I knew the different opportunities I could gain from it.
Immediately after I had taken my first course with Morris, she introduced me to The South Texan and the staff, everyone was so welcoming and nice to me. I felt like I had finally found a place with a group of people I belong with.
Part of the reason why I’m the Journalist/Anchor/Reporter I am today is because of The South Texan. I have made lifelong friends, countless memories, and I’ve even laughed until I couldn’t breathe.
If I had to describe The South Texan and the wonderful individuals that I’ve met along the way, it would be difficult. Why you say? Because I cannot use words to express the love, support and guidance I have gained from my team.
Typing this farewell letter feels so surreal and honestly makes me emotional but looking back on the fun, adversity and hardships I have had during my years here, it has truly molded me into the woman that I am today.
As I move forward and take this next step towards the real world, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has contributed to my life in any way and thank you to my South Texan team.
I will never forget all the memories we have made together.
Signing out, Zena.
