The Hurricanes co-ed football team has started this football season off with a bang and have their eyes on the prize. Storming off to an impressive 3-0 start, the Hurricanes show no signs of slowing down with the help of the mini-army of 31.
The team is a large group of friends who have met through numerous organizations and activities at the recreation center. Success on the field comes from Myles Bryant, the captain, and recruiter. Bryant has coaching and playing experience from Semi-pro to coaching little kids. Bryant has developed the ability to teach the 13 women on the team to throw and catch, which is a huge thing in this league.
“I’m the coach, linebacker, and center. For us to win the shirts we have to stay committed to practice and stay focus on the field because we love to play around but in between the whistle we [are] balling,” Bryant said.
The team has a goal.
“The team’s goal is to win the championship game at the end of the season,” said Erykah Manigault, the receiver on the team.
Manigault is one of the seniors on the team, she is a Biology major with a minor in Geology at Texas A&M University- Kingsville.
“Everyone is a key component and brings something good to the team no matter if [he or she is] on offense or defense,” Manigault said.
According to Imleagues.com, the Hurricanes have the second-best defense while putting up the most amount of points compared to any other team in the Blue league. The Hurricanes have
also scored an impressive 4.67 rating in the sportsmanship category. According to the IMLeague officials, even if you are undefeated, you could still miss the playoffs because of low sportsmanship. Furthermore, the Hurricanes are on the right track along with teams such as For the Homies and the Earth Walkers who are both currently 2-0 right behind the Hurricanes.
