Giving back to TAMUK

Alumni, administrators, family donate to university

Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) brought upon the fifth annual Javelina Day of Giving, a time in which administrators, alumni, parents, and even students can make a donation to any department of their choosing. And they did not disappoint.

After much success last year, the expectations were set high for donor turnout this year. This year’s Day of Giving brought in more donors and more donations. According to givecampus.com there were a total of “1,103 donors and a total of $692,445” raised.

“The final number of donors in 2023 was 1,016 with $637,654,” Marketing and Communications Assistant Director Krystal Emery said. This is nearly a $55,000 increase in donations.

Receiving funds like this helps the various colleges and departments on campus afford necessities they need as well as funding for potential projects each department may begin to focus on.

“From social media alone, it looks to have been a really great turnout for this year’s Day of Giving,” Vice President of Student Affairs and Community Relations Dr. Rito Silva said.

Only for the last two years have donors been able to choose to which department or college they would like to donate.

“What I really like about what we are doing here is that you can pick what area you are interested in or if it were to have some personal meaning to you,” Silva added.

Departments and colleges such as Javelina Athletics, Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering, Dick and Mary Lewis Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and many more received the most funding ranging from $13,500 to over $81,000.

With the success of the Day of Giving this year, this adds another stone to the path for the university to better itself one college or department at a time.
