After Saturday’s 40-13 win against Midwestern State University, the Javelinas are now on a four-game win streak with a 3-0 Lone Star Conference record.
Early in the first quarter, the Javelinas capped off a 65-yard drive with a field goal by kicker Gilbert Garza answering a Midwestern touchdown making the score 3-7
Those were the only points scored by the Javelinas in the first quarter, but the team picked up right where they left off with an 18-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Teague Sedtal to CJ Thompson giving the Javelinas a 9-7 lead.
Six minutes later Midwestern State answered back with a two-play scoring drive capped off by a 51-yard touchdown pass making the score 9-13.
That scoring drive by Midwestern would be their last one of the game. Now for a second week in a row the Javelinas have completely shut out their opponent in the second half.
Beating the clock, the Javelinas drove down the field in seven plays and punched it in for a 2-yard TD run by running back Roger Hagan giving the Javelinas the 16-13 lead.
Right before the half ended the Javelinas were able to get the ball back and make a 40-yard surge in roughly 17 seconds putting kicker Gilbert Garza in position to kick a field goal increasing the Javelinas’ lead 19-13.
To kick off the third quarter the Javelinas caused a fumble which then led to a 37-yard scoop and score by linebacker Blake Jaques increasing the Javelina lead to 26-13
After another stop by the Javelina defense, the offense led by QB Sedtal kept trucking. To cap off a seven-play drive, Sedtal completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to team captain and wide receiver Jackson Allen increasing the lead to 33-13.
The final scoring drive of the game saw RB Hagan punch it in for his second touchdown of the game giving him a career-high stat line of 179 yards with two touchdowns. Hagans’s 179 yards are the most by a Javelina RB in over a decade.
The Javelinas have a full week of preparation ahead of their rivalry game with Angelo State University on the road. The Javelinas are on a 10-game losing streak to ASU and hope to break that streak come next Saturday.
“It will be the same, of course, this is the most important game because it’s the next one, that’s what we preach to our guys. Our preparation continues to be the same, week in and week out. We talk to our guys about our opponents sort of being faceless. We have to worry about us. We control that,” Head Coach Michael Salinas said.
The Javelinas return home Oct. 19 against Central Washington for Homecoming.
