The Rise of Young Filmmakers

With summer approaching and the future box office looking to be busy, one thing we cannot ignore is the rise of young filmmakers.

There are directors debuting at the ages of 19, 20 and 21. With these announcements, it has the community thanks, but begs the question: what are some of us doing with our lives?

Once you get past this question, you realize it truly is never too late to start a production and it’s interesting seeing these young filmmakers come into the spotlight.

A notably young filmmaker that will be debuting soon is Kane Parsons.

His debut film is the highly anticipated “BACKROOMS” movie, and he doing it at just 20 years old. With Parsons’ debut in Hollywood, what else can you really say, except that he is making monumental steps at an early age.

He created the entire found footage lore for the backrooms at only 17 years old.

To see his vision come to life and turned into a full-length feature film is unbelievable.

This is a huge wake up call for upcoming filmmakers, and may even inspirational to some.

He’s setting the example and making his mark, and many are looking up to him.

Let’s think about it, when we were young we all used to write stories for fun and just forget about them later on in life.

However, for people like Parsons, they take that same story and watch it bloom.

They get advertised and boosted on social media platforms and now who knows?

This could recreate Hollywood’s hierarchy altogether.

These directors are bringing Hollywood fresh and new ideas, especially in the generation of social media where it feels like making movies can be anybody’s job.

 For example, look at Tubi.

I’m not saying everybody is in their 20s and making movies but nowadays production is not as huge of a deal as it used to be.

Directors can just film it on their phone and continue on without a hitch.

I’m not saying movies in Hollywood are all going to be recorded on iPhones and Samsungs, but with the technology always evolving, and young filmmakers wanting to create a movie, I won’t be surprised if Hollywood hops on the trend.

We are in a world where the height of technology is at almost everyone’s fingertips, and people can do virtually anything with this.

So, what’s stopping Hollywood from making more cost-effective movies and for more young filmmakers starting their own films?

We are in an age where you can do anything at any time, and filmmakers like Parsons are taking full-advantage of this fact.
