Picture this: you are making tacos. You have been craving them for a while and now you finally have the chance to make them. You sit down with your plate full of tacos, it looks delicious, but you can’t help but notice something is missing.
You finish your tacos, and you finally realize what was missing all this time: salsa to go with them. It is an unspoken law that all residents of South Texas should know how to make salsa verde. Okay, there actually is no such thing. However, one should know how to make salsa verde just in case. To start off, you are going to need: eight tomatillos or Mexican husk tomatoes, three chiles – serranos or serrano peppers- you can use more or less depending on how spicy you like it, one-fourth of an onion, one clove of garlic, cilantro and chicken flavored bouillon, also known as consommé.
In a saucepan, place all the tomatillos, chiles serranos and piece of onion. Fill the saucepan with water and boil everything. Once the water starts bubbling, you can take it out. Dispose of the water in the sink and add what you just boiled to the blender. Cut up five cilantro stems and add it to the blender with a tablespoon of chicken flavored bouillon. You do not need to add water as the tomatillos absorbed some of it already. Blend everything until it reaches a liquid form or whatever form you prefer.
After you finish blending, place your salsa on a plate and taste it to see if it is missing anything. You can add salt, cilantro, onion and avocado to accentuate the taste.
That is all there is to this recipe. It is easy to make, is mouth-watering and it goes with everything.
Yes, you read that right, everything! Tacos, chilaquiles, rice – anything you can think of. Based on the measurements given, this salsa should last you a couple of days. That being said, you can cover the salsa with the lid and store it in the refrigerator for next time. Covering the salsa is crucial as it will last longer.
