Definition of a man’s best friend
Rescued by Ruby is an inspiring true story that tugs at the heartstrings of all ages and has the audience rooting for the underdogs.
Rescued by Ruby was released on March 17 on Netflix and is directed by Katt Shea. This film stars actors Grant Gustin, Scott Wolf and Kaylah Zander.
In this film, you will witness how fate brings two hearts together to accomplish one goal.
State trooper Dan dreams of joining the K-9 Search & Rescue team, but no one will give him the chance.
Shelter dog Ruby dreams of having a home but is running out of hope as she has been brought back to the shelter five times. Will Ruby get adopted and will Dan make the team? You will just have to watch to find out.
Officer Dan is indeed based on true-life Rhode Island State Police Cpl. Daniel O’Neil and Ruby is his K-9 partner in real life, who is an Australian Shepard and Border Collie mix.
The pair met in 2011 and still work together today to help fight crime. Today, Daniel O’Neil runs an 18-strong K-9 Unit for the Rhode Island State Police.
As for Ruby, she is doing well herself, she won the American Humane Hero Dog Award for Search and Rescue in 2018.
I enjoyed watching this movie but most of all I enjoyed reading the end credits where it featured real life Daniel and Ruby.
This movie is a must watch on my list for not only animal lovers but anyone who is interested in movies with thrills and compassion.
What I took away is how films being released now encourage adoption instead of buying from a breeder.
In case you did not know, the United States alone has over 6.3 million animals enter shelters nationwide each year.
After all, given a chance and with the right training and partnership, any dog- purebred or not- can be a good dog.
One last note, yes Ruby and members of the Rhode Island State Police did see the movie in a special premiere at Greenwich Odeum Theatre.
