Weekend filled with spooky fun
On Saturday, Oct. 28 the Javelina volleyball team hosted the first Fright Fest for which the team transformed the hallway of the Steinke Physical Education Center (SPEC) with spooky decor for Halloween.
The event was held to bring a festive atmosphere to their game against the University of Texas Permian Basin. Ultimately, the Javelinas secured a victory against their opponents winning 3-out-of-4 sets.
Alongside the festive decor, Fright Fest also included a costume contest for those who attended.
Fans arrived at the SPEC dressed up for the costume contest hosted during the game, first place went to a young fan dressed as a fairy, the prize was a Whataburger backpack filled with prizes.
“Participating in events like these makes your college experience better,”Student Kehlani Vazquez said.
With this event being the first to ever be held it was fun for students and families to enjoy.
“I think it turned out great this first year so it wouldn’t hurt to keep doing it,” Outside Hitter Jackie Alaniz said.
With the Javelinas coming out on top they held their turf at home and ended Fright Fest with a victory.
“I think today went really well…the fanbase really helps us keep up the energy in the gym,” Outside Hitter Meghan Stiefer said.
The next home game for the Javelina volleyball team will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 10 in the SPEC.
The Javelinas will be taking on West Texas A&M University in this Texas team match up.
