Madison Brabham, senior and right-side player on the Javelina Volleyball team, was announced the Lone Star Conference (LSC) Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year on Aug. 15. Brabham’s stats and team-player attitude led her up the charts. The hopes are high for her as she heads into the 2018-19 season.
“It now becomes a question of how far she can go. [The] sky is the limit for her especially as the LSC Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year,” said Assistant Coach and Recruiter Joseph Morales.
Head Coach Tanya Allen is ready to see what Brabham can do.
“I’m excited for Madi being chosen as Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year. I think it was a huge boost for her confidence and positivity, and I hope she is able to play with that energy all season long,” she said.
When Brabham was playing for the Houston Junior Volleyball Club, Morales was blown away with her athletic ability.
“Madison is a team player and did what was needed for the team. Once she was in the gym, we knew that she would be a big part of our offense as an attacker. Watching her play club volleyball, she did everything from setter to hitter and carried herself as a great teammate with a work ethic in any position we put her in, including now as a setter and RS attacker,” Morales said.
According to Javelina Athletics, Madison racked up 336 kills last season. She started the 2018-19 season fiercely by stuffing the stats with a near triple double at the tournament opener this past weekend in San Angelo.
There is more pressure heading into this season for Brabham, but her strong mindset remains.
“I have been mentally preparing for the pressure and I am excited for the challenge,” Brabham said.
Brabham and the team will play Mary Hardin-Baylor University at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28, in the Steinke Physical Education Center.
