Festive Parade floats draped in lights and tinsel made the sprits of Kingsville bright at the 30th annual La Posada de Kingsville parade.
The theme for this year’s parade was “Show us your School/Team Christmas Spirit”. A theme that aimed to, “…celebrate education and teamwork within the community,” according to the Kingsville Record.
Featuring dozens of parade floats, the parade of lights includes floats from local high schools, businesses and various other organizations. In addition, several groups affiliated with TAMUK participated in the parade.
Owners of the downtown boutique La Potpourri, Amanda Sible and Pam Webb, have been tabling for the La Posada de Kingsville parade since 1992.
“It’s nice that it gets bigger every year. They’ve had to expand down the street,” said Webb.
Surrounded by thousands of lights and hundreds of people Sible expressed her appreciation for the large community turn-out, “Community [is my favorite part]. How much of the community comes down here.”
According to the La Posada de Kingsville festival Facebook page, the winners of the 2019 parade float contest included Ricardo ISD for “Best use of Theme”, Bray’s Smokehouse for “Best Business” and the city of Freer for “Best use of Lights” categories among several other winners.
In addition, La Posada de Kingsville included other holiday themed activities in the downtown area that took place during the morning and afternoon leading up to the parade.
“The Festival of Lights (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) will feature pony rides, food and Christmas-themed goodies available from a variety of arts & crafts vendors. Visitors will also have an opportunity to visit downtown stores and restaurants,” as stated by KRIS 6 News.
Children also had the opportunity to meet and take pictures with Santa during the annual Children’s Snow Day. Santa was also featured in the Festival of Lights parade.
