The Novel Blend will be hosting a book signing for Kingsville’s very own author, Hollie Overton, on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 311 E Kleberg Ave. This event will take place from 1 to 2:30p.m. followed by a reception at Bray’s Smokehouse.
Overton is the author of three standalone novels, The Runaway, The Walls and Baby Doll, which became a national bestseller. All these novels are available for purchase at the bookstore, as well as being signed by the author.
The inspiration behind characters from the novels have came from Hollie’s life.
“I’m an identical twin, and the main characters in Baby Doll were identical twins, and their relationship formed the whole book,” Overton disclosed. “I was very close with my mother, and our mother/daughter relationship helped shape the one in The Runaway.”
Overton grew up in Kingsville, and this small town has had a big influence in her storytelling.
“Kingsville gave me the values and security and a sense that if anything bad happened, I’d be okay,” the author stated. “And the older I get, the more I appreciate that. It [Kingsville] shaped me not only who I am as a writer, but as a person.”
The community is encouraged to attend.
“The community should attend this event in order to celebrate the success of a Kingsville native,” The Novel Blend owner Jill DiFrancesca said. “It is also a way of supporting literacy in our community.”
Some students are excited to attend the event.
“I’m looking forward to this experience, because having a place where literature can be appreciated, especially in a small town, is important,” student Leslie Cariaga said. “Having an opportunity to meet the author is really amazing, especially since she’s from here.”
