The Texas A&M University-Kingsville football team will be hosting a walk-on tryout at 4 p.m., Feb. 19, at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium.
The walk-on tryouts will be for anybody interested in wanting to be a part of the long tradition at TAMUK. It is something you don’t want to miss if you’ve lost your love for the game and have found it again. This is the perfect time to come back and help bring the Javelinas back to the top.
Head Coach Mike Salinas announced there will be a meeting at 5 p.m., Feb. 11, at McCulley Hall. If you are wanting to be a part of the team or interested in the tryout you will have to attend this meeting. In addition to attending the meeting, you have to be a full time student at TAMUK with a 2.3 GPA or higher, need to have a recent physical from the last calendar year and fill out a sickle cell waiver form.
Following the meeting, all paperwork will need to be submitted by 12 p.m., Feb. 17, at McCulley Hall, Office 108 to Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academics, Hanna Lantz.
“We want players that fit our program and come to football and class everyday ready work and on time,” Assistant Coach Parker Cundiff said.
The coaches will be looking for the best all-around candidate that fits the program.
“The opportunity to become a member of the football program requires a commitment of time and determination. We look forward to see who’s ready to step up and demonstrate that commitment on the field, in the classroom and the community,” Lantz said.
Anyone who feels like they’d be a good candidate for the program is highly encouraged to attend the meeting and tryout. Next season the TAMUK football program will play 10 games, five of which will be played at home. This is also the first season for the first-year Head Coach Salinas
