RICHARDSON, Texas (LSC/TAMUK) – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men’s cross country program was selected to finish 14th in the 2020 Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll in a release from the league on Tuesday.
The Javelinas finished 16th at the 2019 LSC Championships in Silver City, N.M., in a year that saw the team claim the title at the Pirate Invitational on October 11.
West Texas A&M was selected to finish first in the LSC with 29 first-place votes, followed by Lubbock Christian with four-first place votes, while Cameron rounds out the top three. The full LSC Preseason Poll can be found at the following link: 2020 LSC Men’s Cross Country Preseason Poll
Four meets await TAMUK for the 2020 fall, starting with a trip to Grand Prairie, Texas, on September 25 for a return trip to the Orville Rogers Opener hosted by conference foe DBU. The Hogs finished third at the 2018 version of the meet led by Jose Ventura IV who finished ninth with a time of 26:54.2 in the 8k.
The following week will see the Javelinas host an invitational on campus, as Our Lady of the Lake and Texas A&M International will make the trip. Two weeks after that, TAMUK will head up to San Angelo, Texas, for the Blue and Gold Classic hosted by Angelo State, while the final meet of the season will see a return trip to ASU for the LSC Championships on October 31.
Headlining the men’s roster will be sophomore Devin Robles (Pearsall, Texas) who paced the Javelinas at the Pirate Invitational with a second-place finished at 28:54.8. He was also the top finisher for TAMUK at the 2019 LSC Championships with a time of 28:11.00 to finish 68th overall.
Robles will be joined by senior David Tellez (Los Fresnos, Texas) who finished sixth at the Pirate Invitational at 30:27.6 and closed the year with a 125th-place finish at the LSC Championships at 32:01.0. Classmate Jasiah Patterson (Corpus Christi, Texas) is back for his final year as he is fresh off a 118th-place finish at the championship meet at 30:39.4, while senior Angel Martinez (El Paso, Texas) rounds out the quartet following his 90th-place finish at the LSC meet at 29:02.3.
