Sunday night the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 to win their second super bowl in franchise history.
In the first quarter both teams exchanged punts back and forth until Kansas City’s kicker Harisson Butker kicked a field goal to go up 3-0.
On the next drive the Bucs drove down the field and Tom Brady connected with Rob Gronkowski for a touchdown.
After going up 7-3 the Bucs continued their dominance on both offense and defense leading to a halftime score of 21-6 with the Chiefs failing to get a touchdown on what looked like a promising drive near the end of the 2nd quarter.
Along with their defensive struggles, it seems penalties really hurt Kansas City each time they tried getting a groove going. This made the Bucs’ odds at winning the game a lot higher.
In the 3rd quarter Brady continued his dominance over the Chiefs secondary as both Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones II ran right through the defensive line with Leonard Fournette finishing the night with 16 rushing attempts for 89 yards as well as a touchdown.
Patrick Mahomes did what he could to try to get the Chiefs offense rolling, but the Bucs defense was ready for him by locking down his WR1 Tyreek Hill and rushing Mahomes immensely throughout the game forcing him to scramble a total of 397 yards just to avoid getting sacked.
In the end the Chiefs failed to score a touchdown at all, and it ended with a game sealing interception by Devin White.
After the game Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady spoke about the adversity the team had to go through to get to the Super Bowl and how he wants to return to Tampa Bay to win another Super Bowl ring.
Going into the off season, the future for the Bucs, at least the near future, looks good and promising so long as they retain their key players.
As for Kansas City, it seems they need to address their offensive line as well as their defense, primarily the secondary, in both the draft and during training camps and enforce maturity and discipline for next season.
