Campus Activities Board (CAB) completely ran out of the new t-shirts, the t-shirts from last year’s swap, and received an anbundance of donations at their annual t-shirt swap event Wednesday, Sept 1.
“It was a great success,” Ysenia Granados, the vice president of CAB, said. The CAB Board was astonished by the tremendous amount of donations received which ranged from a variety of non-perishable food items, hygiene products, and clothing items.
This year, the donations were going towards The Purple Door, a non-profit organization whose mission is “to empower the community and those afffected by domestic violence and sexual assault to tranistion to a safe and healthy environment,” according to their website.
The Purple Door was happy with the amount of donations received by CAB. Tina Sanchez, sexual assault victim advocate, said they had to rearrange their donation room, so they could attempt to fit all the recently received donations.
CAB usually donates to the Weavers of Love and the Animal Rescue Kleberg. This year they decided to try something different.
“I went looking for organizations that we could possibly donate to because we always donate to the same ones and wanted to try something different, if possible, and I found The Purple Door,” Granados said.
Many students were eager to donate and receive this year’s exclusive t-shirt. CAB received compliments about how cool the t-shirt design was, which was desgined by a student who won CAB’s annual T-shirt Desgin Contest.
“The t-shirt design was a perfect fit for this event because the t-shirt says TAMUK STRONG on the front. I think that this t-shirt describes what this event is all about, seeing how strong the TAMUK community can be when we come together,” Special Events Chair Erial Hawkins said.
