A highly-anticipated weekend amongst hip-hop and rap fans became an unanticipated devastation when American rapper Travis Scott continued his popular “Astroworld Festival” concert as eight audience members died while in attendance at the famous concert festival.
Unlike other singers’ concerts, this one carried on even while audience members were being trampled, safety protocols were being disregarded, fans were receiving active medical attention and desperate pleas to stop the show were ignored.
The festival resulted in 10 casualties and hundreds of injuries. Ultimately, this tragedy pegs the big question: Should Travis Scott be held accountable for what occurred at his festival?
Yes he should, along with other concert organizers, considering he only encouraged fans to continue to “rage” in the wake of an unforseen disaster.
Astroworld is an annual festival that takes place in Scott’s hometown, Houston, Texas. This year, however, concert goers attended one of the most-deadly music events in U.S history. It is alleged that 100,000 tickets were sold for the two-day festival and were said to have sold out in under a minute. T
he amount of audience members plus the lack of proper security preparation led to the accidental deadly crowd surges.
Once the first song started playing, hundreds of attendees quickly rushed the stage, while crushing and trampling over each other, leaving little to no air to breathe or space to move. Countless first-hand videos show Scott addressing his passed out fans for a split second, yet continuing to ask the crowd to show some rage, leading to several other deaths within the hour.
The tragic concert and Scott’s actions continue to be analyzed in the wake of the deadly Astroworld festival as the latest victim, nine-year-old Ezra Blount, has died after being placed in a medically induced coma because of the injuries he sustained. Blout becomes the 10th and youngest Astroworld victim.
As fans and victims question this tragedy, we are left wondering what will Scott’s career look like moving forward?
