On Campus job fair helps students find work on campus
Texas A&M University- Kingsville (TAMUK) Student Government Association (SGA) and Career Services partnered up and hosted an On- Campus Job Fair. The job fair allowed students to talk one-on-one with on-campus employers to find their on-campus job fit and view the Javelina Careers powered by Handshake. The job fair took place Jan. 31 at the Memorial Student Union Building (MSUB) ballroom A.
“My overall experience was great. I loved that each booth had different ways of contact information as well as TAMUK swag giveaways. Each job representee at the booth was helpful as well as informative,” attendee Celeste Del Villar said.
The fair had 11 employers representing on-campus jobs. A few employers in attendance were: Marc Cisneros Center for Young Children, Event Planning, Office of Student Access – Upward Bound Math & Science Programs, Financial Aid and University Housing & Residence Life. Students got to fill out applications on site as well as get directions on how to fill out online applications via Handshake.
“Today’s event was an outreach event by all our departments with open positions ready to hire students. Having the opportunity to hear directly from those hiring managers was a great advantage for those who attended today. All the positions highlighted today are posted on Javelina Careers powered by Handshake which can be accessed through the Career Services website,” Director of Career Services and Corporate Relations Ralph Leal said.
Career Services is available for students to help with resumés, on-campus job openings and internship opportunities. For parents the division offers information on How to Support Your Javelina, Javelina Career Closet and Javelina Network. Faculty and staff can request a presentation and ethical recruiting best practices.
“I just want students to see that TAMUK has plenty of job opportunities for students, both work-study and student jobs. It shows that this campus has plenty of opportunity for all students, from job opportunities to how to interview and create good resumés,” SGA President Micayla Grossman said.
