Actor Daniel Franzese coming to TAMUK
Texas A&M University- Kingsville’s (TAMUK) Campus Activity Board (CAB) in collaboration with UNITY, will host a Javelina Movie Night featuring the original Mean Girls movie. This event will be hosted with the hopes to engage the student body to a well-known movie from the early 2000s. The Javelina Movie Night, Featuring Daniel Franzese, will be hosted by the CAB and UNITY at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 20, at Jones Auditorium.
Franzese is known for his role as Damian in Mean Girls, in which he cemented his gay icon status with his role in Tina Fey’s hit comedy. He is best known for his work as a comedian, activist and a member of the LGBTQ+ community. This is the first time CAB will host a movie with a member from the casting role in attendance.
“I am a big Mean Girls fan. I always thought it was a great movie, but I definitely do think that it is going to bring a lot of attendance just as Steve Burns and David Dobrik did in the past,” Campus Activities Coordinator Julianne Gomez said. “They’re all different areas, but I do think that bringing Daniel in, especially because he has that LGBTQ background, he’s a very big advocate for it and he wants to reach out as much as he can in that aspect.”
At the end of the film Franzese will be available for a meet and greet and photos with the student body.
“This is the first time that CAB has invited a cast member from a movie to participate in Javelina Movie Night,” CAB President Lizzetty Lara said. “I am really hopeful that this is going to be a popular event and get a lot of attendance, as it is such an iconic movie and it’s something that our entire generation saw and loved.”
This event is sponsored by the TAMUK Lectureship Series. At the movie night, students can look forward to receiving a free pink Mean Girls inspired Javelina spirit shirt and Franzese will share some behind the scenes details and his personal experience while filming Mean Girls.
Also available before the movie will be popcorn, candies and drinks. Students are to bring their IDs to get a food voucher.
“Mean Girls was one of my favorite movies growing up. To see one of the main cast members at this Javelina Movie Night means so much to me,” Social Work major Brooke Gallimore said.
CAB’s last movie night of the semester will be in May, featuring Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
