With the announcement of the 74th Emmy nominations, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to talk about my favorite nominees.
This year, many talented actresses and actors, along with various TV shows, have been nominated for an Emmy, but, like most people, I do have favorite nominees I hope to win.
My favorite shows nominated are Euphoria, Only Murders in the Building and Abbott Elementary.
Actress from HBO’s hit show Euphoria, Sydney Sweeney, was recently nominated and took to Instagram expressing her gratitude. Seeing up close what her talents are, witnessing the emotional toll her character, Cassie, took on and transformed into throughout the season was astonishing to say the least. Euphoria, Zendaya and Sweeney have four nominations total.
Contrast to Euphoria’s dark and mature themes, one of Hulu’s critically acclaimed comedy and drama shows, Only Murders, stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short as a true-crime-podcast-loving trio working to solve murders that happen in their apartment building, The Arconia in New York.
As they attempt to solve a murder in each season (season 2 is now airing weekly), the gang creates a true-crime podcast narrating their cases in real time. Each actor was perfectly casted for their roles and are big time fan favorites. The actors and Only Murders have 17 nominations total.
While on the topic of comedy shows, ABC’s Abbott Elementary wholeheartedly deserves the seven Emmy nominations it currently has. The show stars actors like Tyler James Williams, Quinta Brunson, Janelle James and more newer faces.
Abbott Elementary shows ardent and diligent teachers trying to help and lead their students. Despite the obstacles the faculty faces throughout the first season, they manage to always stay lighthearted and use humor to cope with their situations. Star of the show and creator, Brunson made Emmy history as the first Black woman to earn three nominations across comedy categories in the same year. She was nominated as an actor, writer and producer.
Every actress and actor nominated for an Emmy is obviously extremely talented, but my fingers are crossed in hopes that stars of the shows I mentioned are able to celebrate their success with this award. With that being said, best of luck to all the nominees of the 74th Emmy Awards.
