First firework show since 2018
Live music, food trucks, fireworks and more will be featured on campus this Friday as Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) hosts Javelina Fest at 7 p.m. at the Rec Sports Complex.
Javelina Fest is a welcome back block party, like the block party hosted during last year’s homecoming week.
“Our students and Kingsville community really enjoyed the Homecoming Block Party back in October, so we decided to bring back that same energy and experience to kick off the new year and Spring Semester but this time with a firework show,” First Year and Family Engagement Coordinator Julianne Gomez said.
The last time fireworks were seen on campus was during homecoming week in 2018.
“We also asked a couple of students what they wanted to have in the Spring and fireworks were one of the most popular answers,” Gomez said.
Aside from fireworks, South 77, a local band, will play live music for students.
“We are hosting two food trucks, El Colombiano and AAA BBQ, Tom’s Travelin’ Coffee Truck, S’mores sponsored by SGA, live music and a firework show,” she said.
The firework show will begin at 8:30 p.m.
“Staff Council also jumped in on our event once they heard about it and purchased food tickets for the first 75 staff members. I truly appreciate this kind gesture from Staff Council as our TAMUK Staff is always looking for ways to participate and engage with our students and events,” Gomez said.
