The South Texan followed up with university police and the office of marketing and communications about protocol for disturbances regarding an individual that is not enrolled as a student and if they have found the suspect.
“This remains an active investigation. All matters related to community safety are a university priority and are fully investigated. Anyone on campus who feels unsafe—whether inside a classroom or anywhere else on campus—are strongly encouraged to contact the University Police at 361-593-2611. University Police, the Office of Compliance and other university officials continue to investigate this incident.” Chief Marketing and Compliance Officer, Adriana Garza- Flores said.
“We did turn in a few warrants to Kleberg County. We do not know if Kleberg apprehended him.” University police said.
The South Texan awaits a response from Kleberg county; this is remains as a developing story.
On June 28, 2023, at 1:51 p.m. students were informed of an individual that is not a current student causing a disturbance to a female student in a classroom in the engineering complex.
According to a press release by the university Both individuals were known to each other. The male, who is not a current student, is not allowed to contact the female student as per conditions of his probation. The male entered a classroom and tried to attack the female, who was sitting in class. While the male attempted to attack the female, he was stopped by other students inside the classroom and escorted out of the building. The male is still at large at this time.
An eyewitness that was in the engineering complex states there was commotion from the first floor, a group of men were escorting a man outside of the building where he proceeded to leave the scene. University police has been seen inside and outside of buildings on campus in attempt to find the suspect. University police have also found an unpermitted vehicle parked outside the engineering complex where the disturbance occurred and have placed a boot on the vehicle. This vehicle is believed to belong to the suspect.
University police are patrolling the area. The South Texan was informed that other authorities have been contacted and are still investigating.
