Hogs honored by AFCA Association
The Javelinas cracked into the No.21 spot on the AFCA national ranking after a 20-17 victory against the No.20 West Georgia Wolves.
“Being ranked top 25 was a great accomplishment for us as a team, it’s a good feeling when the hard work we put in is recognized nationally especially when we know how great of a football team we want to be,” Defensive Back Amos Coleman said. “We want to get this program back into the conversation of being conference champs and I think we’re off to a great start.”
The last time the Javelinas were ranked in the poll came in week nine of the 2022 season at the No. 20 spot. With the majority of new coaching staff and transfer players that have been added to the Javelina family, the team has already shown growth and look to keep improving throughout the season.
“It was a good win and a hard earned one too, West Georgia was a formidable team just like any other,” Defensive End Ezrah Thibodeaux said. “They came and gave us a good fight from start to finish and now we’ve seen what it takes in order to beat those teams that are placed in that upper echelon within this division and with this past game we can add to our tool belts so we can continue to shoot for 1-0 each week.”
The Javelinas hope to continue momentum with the support of Javelina Nation cheering them on in the stands.
“It was really good for our players to experience this at the Javelina Stadium and understanding the importance of Javelina Football,” Head Coach Mike Salinas said. “We’re just really thankful for the supporters who came out, it was neat to be able to look up and see that our guys got to play in front of a full stadium.”
The Javelinas continue to go into every week striving to produce the best results as they prepare to take on the Mustangs at Western New Mexico on September 11.
