In the past country music has been seen as a type of “honky tonk” music that was only listened to by people who lived on ranches or were cowboys. Most songs were just talking about drinking or a sad event that happened in the musician’s life. I feel that those days are behind us and country music has seen a rebirth into this new genre where just about every song tells a story. My family and I listen to Zach Bryan as well as a few other stars like Tyler Childers and Luke Combs. These guys are the ones who have shaped the country music genre that I listen to and though it is two different eras of music, the new era is the one I am more affiliated with and listen to daily. The artists tell stories not just about heartbreak but their lives as well such as Zach Bryan’s song “Old Man” where he tells the story of his hard-working dad who did what he could to provide for his family. Another song that tells the story of a family is “Keep the wolves away” by Uncle Lucius where he tells the story of his father being in an accident on a tanker ship but survived and got money from a settlement but since the money has been running out, Lucius says it is his time to take care of his dad. This song and others are the reason I feel this era of country music is better than before. Though the older country songs will forever hold a place in my heart because despite what version of country you listen to, George Strait will forever be the king of country music.
