Remastered music stays relevant today
What can be said about the Beatles that hasn’t been said already? Thanks to the new mixes presented in the 2023 reissue of The Beatles 1962-1966, or the Red Album as it is often called, we can say a little more and take a deep dive back into some of the greatest hits of the 1960’s and the first half of The Beatles career and say some new things about them.
Originally released 1973 as a compilation of their hits from 1962-1966, Songs like Please Please Me and All My Loving have been given a fresh coat of paint 50 years later, revealing details that were almost indistinguishable in the original mixes of the tracks, so much so that one is able to clearly hear John Lennon’s voice crack at the 57 second mark of Please Please Me.
My favorite track off the album has to be In My Life, with the standout moment being the vocal harmonies done by the band in the verses of the song. Thanks to the new mixes every instrument and voice has its own space to breathe and exist. Even though they are the same songs, the difference between the 2023 reissue and their mono counterparts are miles apart, and I feel that any fan of The Beatles can find something new to appreciate when listening to the Red Album. The Beatles 1962-1966 was reissued on November 10th, 2023 side by side with The Beatles: 1967-1970, or the Blue Album as it is often referred to, just as it was when it originally released on April 2nd, 1973.
