The most anticipated night in UFC history
UFC 300 was an absolute spectacle, a fight card that was a must see for UFC fans all over the world. With a card stacked from top to bottom, UFC president Dana White outdid himself with this historical event.
In the final fight of the undercard light heavyweight contender Jiří “The Czech Samurai” Procházka took on Aleksandar “Rocket” Rakić. Approximately, three minutes into the second round Procházka turned the fight on its head with a flurry of strikes followed by a ground and a pound that won Procházka by way of technical knock out (TKO). The fight proved that Procházka is still a contender in the light heavyweight division.
In the first fight of the main card, rising star middleweight Bo Nickal took on Cody Brundage. Throughout the fight, Nickal showed off his ability to do it all by outstriking and outwrestling Brundage. Nickal put an end to the fight 3:38 seconds into the second round by way of submission proving that he truly is a contender in the middleweight division.
In the second fight of the main card Charles “Do Bronxs” Olivera took on Arman “Ahalkalakets” Tsarukyan. After nearly being submitted in the first round Tsarukyan found a way to beat Olivera by way of decision. I think Olivera was robbed, this loss truly taints Oliveras current run putting a halt to his title chase after losing his opportunity to face champion Islam Makachev a couple of months ago due to injury.
In what was undoubtedly one of the best fights in UFC history with one of the best finishes we’ve ever seen. BMF Champion Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje took on one of the greatest featherweights of all time In Max “Blessed” Holloway.
This fight was the highlight of the night as Holloway outstruck Gaethje the entire time. Although Holloway picked Gaethje apart the entire fight, Gaethje refused to go down and performed like a true BMF Champion. It wasn’t until the final seconds that Holloway was able to get it done in a moment that will replay in fans’ heads years for decades to come.
Holloway challenged Gaethje to stand and bang for the final 10 seconds of the fight, and in legendary fashion the two exchanged punches ferociously. Holloway landed three strikes to the body and an absolute bomb of a right hand to Gaethje’s chin ending the fight 4:59 second into the fifth and final round. This performance landed Holloway the BMF Championship and a $600,000 bonus, and proving that the Holloway is still a contender in the featherweight division. In the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan Holloway called out featherweight champion Ilia Topuria.
In what seemed like no time, the co-main event was underway. For the first time ever two Chinese fighters took on each other for a championship fight. Women’s Strawweight Champion, Weili Zhang took on contender Yan Xiaonan in a fight that went the distance. After Xiaonan battled back several times Zhang was able to take down Xiaonan by way of decision further cementing her reign as Women’s Strawweight Champion.
In the main event of this absolute thrill fest of a card, Alex “Poatan” Pereira took on Jamahal “Sweet Dreams” Hill in a fight that ended rather quickly. Both fighters looked ready to kill, but in the end, Pereira was the better man. After an apparent low blow and a check-up by the referee, Pereira motioned the ref away and seconds later proceeded to knock Hill down, and after a quick ground and pound Pereira retained the light heavyweight championship in the first round by way of TKO.
Out of all the amazing bright spots on this card, the moment of the night is hands down Holloway winning the BMF Championship in the fashion that he did after being the underdog going into the fight. Holloway proved that he still has much more left in him and possibly a featherweight title run in the near future.
