The green fig tree

There has been a recent trend on TikTok on which people talk about their fig tree – all the things and people they hope to be – and it has caught my eye.

Before this trend started, I was reading “The Bell Jar”, where the reference of a fig tree is talked about in Sylvia Plath’s book.

In the book she says “I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked.”

When I first read this, I was stunned and knew she understood my thoughts even though she didn’t write this book for me.

I started to realize I was always thinking about my fig tree before I even knew what to call it. To me, I think we can do and be anything we want, because who is going to tell us otherwise? I want to do everything and when I found out that I could, nothing was going to stop me.

People need to realize you can be whatever is on your fig tree. You just have to actually want to do it and you have to start somewhere.

It may go unnoticed, it may take long, it might just be a hobby, but every branch you have can become true.

I want to be a writer, a model, a  photographer, a director, an artist, a bookstore owner, and a teacher.

This is all on my fig tree and I can make all of them come to life because they are already a part of me.

If there is something on your fig tree that you want to come true, just do it. Make it happen and once you start, just keep going.
