Javelinas win big at home

The Javelina football team is rolling through the Lone Star Conference with a 3-game winning streak after Saturday’s 56-21 victory against the Sul Ross Lobos.

To get the game started the Javelinas received the ball to start and drove down the field for a 45-yard drive that was capped off with two-yard touchdown by Roger Hagan to set the Javelinas up 7-0.

The Lobos were able to quickly combat the Javelinas scoring drive though with a 49-yard touchdown pass on the very next drive leveling the score 7-7.

The points kept racking up as the Javelinas had another long drive that capped off with another score, running back Santana Scott punched in an eight-yard run to get the Javelinas up 14-7 and ending the first quarter.

The Javelinas were able to slow down the Sul Ross offense in the second quarter only allowing a single score and adding 2 more touchdowns of their own from passes by quarterback Teague Sedtal to Jackson Allen and Isaiah Small putting the Javelinas up 28-14 at the half.

What seemed to have the makings of a shootout turned into a slow lobsided affair in the second half.

The 3rd quarter saw Small and Scott getting their second touchdowns on passes from Sedtal to put the Javelinas on top 42-14.

The last time the Lobos were able to see the endzone came on a 16-play drive where backup quarterback Tucker Bridwell ran it into the endzone to make the score 42-21.

The fourth quarter saw two touchdowns from the Javelinas at the hands of backup quarterback Kannon Williams and running back Raymond Hudson to put the Javelinas on top 56-21 which would be the final score.

Sedtal finished the game with 4 passing touchdowns from multiple wide receivers in an offensive masterpiece which prompted a question about the successful offense in the post-game conference.

“It’s great, it helps a lot when our offensive coordinator dials up plays to get them that wide open, and when the line blocks when they do where I can get though my reads.” Sedtal said.

Head Coach Michael Salinas was asked about any adjustments that were made at halftime that prompted only one score given up in the second half.

“We needed to play harder, and we needed to clean some things up. Our goal was to go out and try to hold them to no scores in the second half, but it’s college football, and it’s hard to win college football games,” Salinas said.

The Javelinas will return home this Saturday against Midwestern State who are a top three team in the Lone Star Conference to try an extend their 3 game winning streak.
