Problems faced with JNET

The final stretch of the semester is here, and things begin to wind down as students prepare themselves for any online work their professors may assign ahead of their final exams.

However, some students may have encountered roadblocks because of JNET problems. Throughout this semester the online student service has undergone maintenance four times.

“There are two issues I usually have which are my account becoming unavailable or sometimes I have to call IT because my account gets deactivated sometimes,” senior Richard Brice said.

Issues like this have been of great concern and have attempted to be fixed via maintenance and patchwork.

Throughout this semester the online service has undergone maintenance four times and when JNET goes under maintenance, a notice is sent out via email with necessary steps a student can take as the work is being done.

In an email notice sent out on Nov. 4 when JNET was experiencing difficulties, students were given instructions that read “In the meantime, the same functions are available in Blue & Gold by accessing the following JNET tabs: Registration, Paying for College, Academic Records, Employee.”

While these steps are useful and helpful, it may not be helpful to every student who may use JNET to access their blackboard accounts to complete schoolwork.

“I had an incident with JNET where I tried to access blackboard through it on my MacBook Pro and it glitched and kicked me off and I had to restart my laptop to try to log back in,” senior Isabel Lopez said. “Also, another issue that I have been dealing with since October is that when I log into my JNET I’m met with a red error label that says my account is unavailable.”

JNET is considered a major necessity by students on campus.

“I feel with more technical support, this would get students back on track to manage their academic affairs efficiently,” junior Jakeline Orantes said.

Orantes states she has not faced any major problems herself but has peers that didn’t understand the shortcut instructions that were given during a patchwork, and she too, struggled to access the tabs she needed to complete her work.
