Gaga, Lamar, Bad Bunny take the lead
The music academy has a lot on their hands with this year’s roster of nominations. Over the past year the music scene has experienced a reissuance of sorts with thought provoking sounds and lyrics flooding streaming platforms. Lady Gaga’s electro ’80s album Mayhem leads the pack at six nominations with one going to Gaga’s Joker companion album Harlequin.
“Lady Gaga has a nearly clear path to bring home some more statuettes. Her latest album, “Mayhem,” absolutely exploded this year, with fans and casual listeners likening her hit single “Abracadabra” to the music that made her famous years ago,” said breaking news reporter Rebbeca Cohen for NBC.
Album of the year and record of the year are also among Gaga’s nod-nabs bringing her total to seven trailing behind Kendrick Lamar with nine nominations also including record and album of the year.
“After today, Lamar can boast a total of 66 Grammy nominations over the course of his music career, proving he is definitely not like us,” Cohen said.
Most notably on the list, Sabrina Carpenter, whose provocative album “Manchild” earned its place among the most nominated. Lola Young the “Messy” pop diva and break out sensation earned the coveted best new artist nomination. Speaking of the viral, Bad Bunny following the outrage in the past months over his legitimacy of having the privilege to be headlining the Super Bowl half time show is now having the last laugh as his latest album secured six total nominations from what Bad Bunny described to have been his most culturally influenced album.
“Bad Bunny’s “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” is only the second time an all-Spanish language album has been nominated for the top prize. The first was also a Bad Bunny release — in 2023, for “Un Verano Sin Ti,” reported PBS.
Perhaps now the critics of the upcoming half time show, which also marks his only show in the United States of this album cycle, will finally fumble.
The 2026 Grammy awards are set to air Feb. 1 on CBS which will be a killer pregame to the Bad Bunny Bowl on Feb. 13 unleashing Mayhem among the world – let’s hope we have extra mustard.
