Sipping Away the Cold at the REC

Rec hosts student activity event

The record-breaking cold brought more than just ice and frozen pipes, it also brought the opportunity for students to make friends while remote classes were in effect.

The Rec at Texas A&M University – Kingsville (TAMUK) hosted Warm Up at the Rec during which students were able to come onto campus to enjoy hot chocolate and yard games on Monday, Jan. 26.

“Being here makes me happy and just having something to do is what keeps me going,” Rec staff personnel Inari Vargas said.

The yard games that were available for students to use included giant cup-pong, plastic axe throwing and bean bag toss. Competitive games like this allowed students to challenge themselves and their peers to friendly matches.

“I’m just looking to make more friends – and be more involved in on campus events,” Business student Andrew Garcia said.

The staff at the Rec made sure the hot cocoa station was operational and that the students had everything they needed to enjoy the event

“I’d say the yard games have been pretty fun; me and my friends enjoyed playing the axe throw one the most,” Chemical Engineering student Alex Perez said.

By bringing students together over hot cocoa and friendly competition, the event highlighted the resilience of the TAMUK community.
