{"id":10251,"date":"2024-03-20T19:41:02","date_gmt":"2024-03-20T19:41:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=10251"},"modified":"2024-03-20T19:42:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-20T19:42:09","slug":"let-them-eat-cereal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/20\/let-them-eat-cereal\/","title":{"rendered":"Let them eat cereal"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Kellogg\u2019s has released a commercial with a human family eating dinner at a kitchen table with two animated characters: Tony the Tiger and an animated chicken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it may sound like a normal commercial, let it be known that it is the most tone-deaf advertisement I have seen in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Americans are facing a food crisis with the price of groceries rising before their eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This commercial encourages families that are struggling financially to eat cereal for dinner, as it is a low-cost meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it is a low-budget option, the advertised cereal has little to no nutritional value, as it is extremely processed and full of sugar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I could have more respect for the approach if the product placement included a healthy option, but unfortunately it did not. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As expected, the commercial launched a wave of controversy on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kellogg\u2019s CEO Gary Pilnick\u2019s arrogant mouth decided to release a PR nightmare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe cereal category has always been quite affordable and it tends to be a great destination when consumers are under pressure,\u201d Pilnick said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pilnick also stated that 25 percent of their customers already eat cereal for dinner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This statistic felt awfully convenient, perhaps because in 2022 Kellogg\u2019s was encouraging customers to eat cereal as dinner for a chance to win $5,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pilnick\u2019s response has now sparked a nationwide boycott, with consumers telling Pilnick to \u201ctake his Frosted Flakes and shove them.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kellogg\u2019s is the epitome of manipulation, and it is unacceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Readers, I encourage you to avoid all Kellogg\u2019s products and research available alternatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information regarding the boycott visit <em>letthemeatcereal.org<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kellogg\u2019s has released a commercial with a human family eating dinner at a kitchen table with two animated characters: Tony the Tiger and an animated&hellip;
