Last week, the Javelina women’s basketball team held its High School Elite Camp to help train and showcase high school athletes from 9th to 12th grade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These high school athletes had a chance to workout with college coaches as well as members of the Javelina women\u2019s basketball team, who were there for support and to help teach these young athletes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was also an opportunity for Head Coach Michael Madrid to see incoming scholarship athletes, build relationships and see upcoming talent to build for the future of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have two players in this Elite Camp that we’ve already offered scholarships to in the 2025 class. Then there’s just a number of really talented players in the lower classes as well,\u201d Madrid said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Madrid also credits the athletes who were there in support of the younger generation and to showcase the speed and pace of college basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the High School Elite Camp was not just for high school athletes trying to make collegiate rosters and earn scholarships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Assistant Women’s basketball Coach Rachel Barnes knew that the camp was also an opportunity for a younger generation of women athletes to just get better as players and fall more in love with the game of basketball.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI feel like women’s basketball is rising and it starts with all of our young kids, so having them here helps them develop and makes them love the game. It’s just a great look, it’s a great feeling for me,\u201d Barnes said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Camps like this will be running all summer with camps that feature men\u2019s basketball and Showcase Football camps.
