{"id":11202,"date":"2025-02-10T18:23:14","date_gmt":"2025-02-10T18:23:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=11202"},"modified":"2025-03-25T21:21:03","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T21:21:03","slug":"spring-semester-kicks-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/10\/spring-semester-kicks-off\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring semester kicks off"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"\">Music filled the upstairs ballroom in the Memorial Student Building, welcoming students to celebrate with the College of Arts and Sciences.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Circling the ballroom were the various departments in the College of Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">&nbsp;Each table embraced students with information from their departments, including amusing activities to engage in conversation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201cNot many people are willing to talk to the department heads on their own, I think bringing them together makes it easier for people to go out and want to learn,\u201d Dora Hernandez, freshman and T-shirt winner, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">As the KTAI Radio Dj\u2019d music and people ate food, raffle winners were announced.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Prizes included T-shirts, a Porky stuffed animal and baseball caps. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Professors sought the opportunity to connect with several of their students in a social scene rather than the typical classroom setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe got to know the students and communicate with them. Whereas, in a classroom or teaching environment, we don\u2019t get to interact with the students like we are doing now,\u201d Professor Elsa Brown, math department, said. \u201cIf you get to know your teacher, or the department, you\u2019ll feel more relaxed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This bash did not just bring in students from the College of Arts and Sciences, students from other areas joined in on the enlightening event. Each department was open to providing knowledge and welcoming all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201cSomething that I didn\u2019t know we had on this campus was speech therapy. It\u2019s very intriguing and nice to know that it is free to students, I learned that from the speech therapy booth,\u201d Maverick Ramirez, civil engineering student said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The College of Arts and Sciences aims for continuous student attendance as these events are advantageous.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">\u201cWe\u2019re here to help students and to make sure they\u2019re successful throughout their academic career.
