With a final score of 82-63 the women’s basketball team ended their season with a 17-11 record. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI talked about this just a second ago. We lose Logan (Borchardt) arguably our best player and guard. So, you lose a point guard right there and you know we could have gone south right there, but they banded together and fought and played hard. There\u2019s a few games that we lost that we probably should have won\u2026So, look at this team – we\u2019ve won 17 games, but in my mind this is a 20 win season for us. Hopefully finishing the season like this at home is a good springboard into what’s going on next week,\u201d Head Coach Michael Madrid said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team now heads to the Lone Star Conference tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A contributor to the Javelinas success has been senior Abby Bala. Bala finished the regular season top three in five major categories for the Javelinas. She was also first in assists with 93 on the season. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDefinitely my teammates. I can\u2019t be where I\u2019m at if I don’t have a team that surrounds me with people that are going to make shots. So, I would say the success goes to my teammates,\u201d Bala said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Bala, junior Shelby Ray led the team in scoring this season averaging 11.3 PTS and 5.9 REB on 48.3 percent shooting from the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMan, I love every single one of these guys. Just coming here daily, getting to work, believing in one another and in our ability and what we need to do. But I wouldn’t want any other team in this country. This is my team right here,\u201d Ray said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going into the final games of the 2024-2025 season, the women’s Javelinas team were tied with the San Angelo Rams and West Texas A&M Buffs with a 12-9 conference record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the 12-9 conference tie the Javelinas had the opportunity to move up to fifth or drop and finish the year seventh heading into the Lone Star Conference Tournament. With a Rams win and Buffs loss the Hogs would find themselves with a 13-9 conference record putting them in the sixth spot in the tournament. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Javelinas will go up against the UT-Tyler Patriots in the first round of the LSC Tournament. In the previous two matchups against the Patriots this season the Hogs lost by single digit points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve gone up to them twice already, and we\u2019ve fallen a little bit short,\u201d Bala said. \u201cAlthough, I feel like with a little bit of tweaks here and there, we can take them on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So going into this quarterfinal\u2019s matchup the Javelinas are going in ready to battle. The matchup will take place at noon, Thursday, March 6, at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
