I’m hoping to hit maybe around 1,200 at once, because I don’t know exactly but I think the Waka Flocka concert had around 3,500 somewhere around that range. So, I think we’ll probably hit around 3,500 for the whole day – that’s the goal. I think every year we want to make it bigger; over the years we do want to make it to where it becomes a tradition here on campus, and I think it’s small steps to where we want to be,” President of Music Relations Ramiro Vera said.

Screamin’ Javelina is a way for local artists to bring their music to a broad audience for a night and help propel their music career by creating a fanbase through the platform given to them.

To some artists, especially on-campus talent, the meaning of their music is important to share with their peers.

“To me, it gives me a chance to showcase these songs to these students on campus. These songs have a deep meaning and are meant to tell a story. Being a student on campus inspired a lot of these songs, and I hope that people can relate to these stories,” artist and student Ethan Edghill said.

This year Screamin’ Javelina has been taken over by students, giving students experience in putting on their own music festival for their peers to enjoy.

“So, speaking of Ramiro, he was our director of music this year so he is the person who created our artist application. He vetted all of the artists that applied to perform at the festival,” Campus Activities Coordinator Kelsey Dahlbeck said. “He ran trainings for them and he with the other e-board members put together the final lineup. We have a director of volunteers who’s gone out and recruited all of the volunteers that are going to be helping us festival day and she’s in charge of training them. We have a director of festival experience who is putting together like all of our art displays that we’re going to have there. She’s coordinated activities for the day of and then of course we have our director of marketing Vincent Ochoa and he has been working on all of the like marketing and advertisements that we’ve been doing for the festival. So really Katelyn Garza and I, the two staff advisers who work with this festival, we’ve handled some of the logistics stuff but students really have taken the lead and turned this festival kind of into their own event,”

Screamin Javelina is from 2 to 10 p.m., March 29, at the Javelina Stadium practice field.
