In just three months, I have written seven pieces either on the Javelina Track and Field players or the team in general. The men\u2019s and women\u2019s teams continue to dominate the competition as they won a combined eight events at TAMUK\u2019s Cactus Cup track meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The women\u2019s team received three first place finishes in the 400m dash, the 800m run and the 4x400m relay. The men\u2019s team received five first place finishes in shot put, hammer throw, discus, pole vault and the 4x400m relay. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Senior sprinter Cynai Christopher finished in first for the 400m dash. Meanwhile she also broke a Cactus Cup record with a new 400m time of 54.60, and fellow teammate freshman Oneika Brissett finished in second. In the 800m run senior Maya Espinosa won first in the event running a 2:19.23, and sophomore Sophie Mossman finished in second.

For the main event, Sakara Wade, Vitiana Roberts, Brissett and Christopher set the field on fire again in the 4x400m relay, breaking the previous record with a new time of 3:42.86. This marks the third time the group have broken records together this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the men’s side of things, senior thrower Ronald Mosquera continues to do beastly things in field events. He finished first in discus with a throw of 58.18m (190.10 ft), making it the second-best throw in the nation. He would back that up not too long after throwing a shot put 18.3m (60.05 ft) finishing in first, and yet another throw being second in the nation and both being new bests in the Cactus Cup record books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fellow senior thrower Paxton Hair wasn\u2019t too far behind finishing with the second-best throw in the meet and third best throw in the nation. He also finished first in the hammer throw with a throw of 50.61m (166 ft). Senior Thomas Nieto would clear 5.26m (17.3 ft) receiving a first-place finish and new Cactus Cup record. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly to the women\u2019s team, the men\u2019s 4x400m relay team would dust the competition by over 11 seconds running a blazing 3:11.04. Tony Benitez, Taylor Chaney, Sterling Riles and Michael Samihamba own the new record in the 4×400 relay in the Cactus Cup record books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both teams continue to dominate the outdoor season, and don\u2019t seem to be stopping anytime soon. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
