Javelinas had options that included waterslides, yard games, bubble soccer, pickleball, tennis and sand volleyball at a recent event showing the university\u2019s student recreation center. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe goal of RECtravaganza is to have a good time with the students and let them know what they have at the university. They could see the sports and activities that go on through the entire year,\u201d TAMUK Recreation Center\u2019s Student Director Alan Hernandez said of the event held Wednesday, Aug. 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While RECtravaganza typically draws a large crowd on its own, this year\u2019s event carried special meaning. As part of TAMUK\u2019s Centennial celebration, the Associate Dean of Academic Success invited all students to join in an historic J-shaped group photo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI saw that the event was going to be big, so I got excited and decided to come. It\u2019s nice to see everyone out here,\u201d freshman Brianna Gomez said. \u201cI\u2019ve gone to other events on campus, so far this was the biggest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the games and food, RECtravaganza created a space for connection. Students had the chance to meet campus organizations, design tote bags and perform in front of their peers, making the evening just as social as it was active.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSeeing the different organizations come out shows us that they are here for us,\u201d junior Maddie Olivarez said. \u201cEven if you\u2019re not into doing things outside, things such as yard games and the show, are fun.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hernandez hopes the event inspires students to take full advantage of the resources available at TAMUK. Resources that support not only education, but also personal growth through social and physical activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
