{"id":1741,"date":"2019-02-08T23:34:56","date_gmt":"2019-02-08T23:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=1741"},"modified":"2019-02-05T23:36:44","modified_gmt":"2019-02-05T23:36:44","slug":"french-club-resurrected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2019\/02\/08\/french-club-resurrected\/","title":{"rendered":"French Club Resurrected"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Students can expect to see more French culture on campus, now that the French Club has been revived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Texas A&amp;M University Kingsville French Club meets at 3:30 p.m. every Wednesday in the conference room, by the Blue Room, in Sam Fore Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1983, Dr. Jaqueline Thomas established the French Club and would go on to sponsor it for 30 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the club briefly went dormant, Dr. Thomas has sparked a new interest by bringing it back.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re hoping to compliment what I do in the classroom,\u201d Dr. Thomas began, \u201cbring French culture to campus, and celebrate things that are celebrated in France.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With not just a passion for the language, but the culture as a whole, the French Club wants to spread the language of France and its beauty, influence and importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI really want the French Club to expand to more people,\u201d said President of the French Club Hunter Pena. \u201cIt\u2019ll bring people together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The French Club has several fundraisers planned, as well as one already in the books.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent taco sale met their expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members also have a French movie night in the works, as well as romantic boxes to be sold for Valentine\u2019s Day.\u201cIt\u2019ll have little French cookies, and a little French saying in it that you can give your significant other,\u201d Pena said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The club stresses the beauty of the language and its romance. The French culture inspires them to want to spread it to as many other students as they possibly can.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think the more cultured you are, it shows a lot of character, diversity, and is a very useful thing to have under your belt,\u201d said Historian of the French Club Amber Badger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Above all, the French Club wants students to know they are a group of people who want students to come and have fun with a culture and language that is worth learning about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re all very friendly here, and we\u2019re open to new ideas, and new perspectives here,\u201d Pena said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Students can expect to see more French culture on campus, now that the French Club has been revived.
