After a rain out on day one of the Lone Star Conference tournament in Abilene, the Javelinas tennis team kicked off the first round of action with a 4-0 win over Western New Mexico.
\nJunior Victoria Romanovskaia and senior Phonephathep Philavong started off doubles play with a decisive 6-1 victory over Carolina Torrico and Nicole Gonzalez.
\nDuo Loren Tristan and Valerie Ruiz sealed the doubles point for the Javelinas with a 6-3 win over Karina Diaz Kolovos and Julia Terrazas in the third flight.
\nSingles victories from Ruiz, Romanovskaia and Julia Rauer locked up the victory for the Javelinas.
\nA few hours later, The Blue and Gold failed to keep the momentum of their quarter-finals victory, falling to No. 14 Midwestern State.
\nTristan and Ruiz suffered defeat at the hands of Lea Cizeron and Taylor Gray, 6-3.
\nBianca Duff and Ashley Ramirez, who are currently the 10th ranked doubles pair, defeated the 46th ranked duo, Lisa Caravajal and Maya Donkor 7-5, to secure the doubles point for Midwestern.
\nCaravajal would recover from her doubles defeat, with a straight-set victory and the Javelina\u2019s only semi-final point.
\nGreta Lazzarotto, the 66th-ranked ITA singles player, claimed a straight-set victory over Philavong and Cizzeron would go on to beat sophomore Laura Montalvo, 7-5 and 6-1.
\nMidwestern State would go on to defeat Tarleton State in the championship round, claiming the LSC title, and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships which will air on NCAA.com. Midwestern State would also go on to claim the LSC title in the men\u2019s division.
\nThe Javelinas are currently waiting on the new regional rankings to find out if they will continue their season.
