On Oct. 31, \u201cokSOBERfest meets Monster Ball\u201d was held in Martin Hall. The event was hosted by Housing and Resident Life, pepTALK and Student Health and Wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Texas A&M-Kingsville students were exclusively invited to join in on some educational games, mocktails and music. Students were able to have fun while also learning important wellness information. Students got to learn the effects of alcohol with a beer goggles activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe games are really fun and they have a purpose. I was unsure at first if I wanted to come to this, but I\u2019m glad me and my friends decided to stop by. We got some treats and I learned a lot,\u201d student Maria Canamar said. \u201cOverall, it\u2019s been a good night. We\u2019ve met some new people too which is cool.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Information about sexual health was also a topic presented at okSOBERfest and students were educated on its importance. They provided lots of information like a list of the most common STDs among college students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis event was actually awesome because there was a lot of different information given to us. I feel like some of it doesn\u2019t get talked about as much as it should, but today I definitely learned a lot and still had fun with my friends,\u201d student Annya Mendoza said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Students who had any questions were able to get answers and not wonder about any realities that are out there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI asked some general questions that I had. It reminds you that even though you need to have fun you also need to know how to be responsible, and I think that we sometimes forget that,\u201d student Christopher Shivers said. \u201cThey should have some more events like this in the future because it really reminds you to take a step back and make sure you are making good choices.
