{"id":3685,"date":"2020-03-06T18:25:10","date_gmt":"2020-03-06T18:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=3685"},"modified":"2020-03-06T18:33:31","modified_gmt":"2020-03-06T18:33:31","slug":"hoops-go-back-in-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2020\/03\/06\/hoops-go-back-in-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Hoops go back in time"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>TAMUK basketball is ready to roll out the vintage uniforms and run up that scoreboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Javelina hoops prepares to tip off in style, the men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball teams will face Texas A&amp;M International University, Feb. 15, in the 2nd annual \u201cThrowback\u201d game. The Blue and Gold will represent the legacy and tradition dating back to the days of A&amp;I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The women\u2019s team will tip off at 2 p.m., followed by the men\u2019s team beginning at 4 p.m., at the Steinke Physical Education Center (SPEC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Michael Madrid, head women\u2019s basketball coach, encourages alumni to attend these games which will build a strong base within the women\u2019s basketball program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am super excited for this year\u2019s throwback game,\u201d Madrid said. \u201cHopefully by getting more alumni to attend the throwback game, they will see how hard we play and will start coming to other games as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnny Estelle, head men\u2019s basketball coach, feels equally enthusiastic about this year\u2019s throwback game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are all one school, we are all Javelinas,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery time we have a chance to host a home event, it is a great opportunity for all of our campus to support our university.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both teams feel there is something more to represent than just themselves. Texas A&amp;I brought heart and commitment, which will always be remembered, understanding there would be no future without the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophomore guard Bridget Upton and senior guard Chauncey Thomas said the support given by faculty, fans and alumni is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSeeing fans and alumni in the stands is exciting because it feeds into our energy as a team,\u201d Upton said. \u201cTo know that they built this program first, and made TAMUK, TAMUK.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thomas agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe foundation laid by the A&amp;I alumni is inspiring to the boys,\u201d Thomas said. \u201cWe are all one family, we are all Javelinas that bleed blue and gold.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both teams encourage Javelina Nation to come out and support the Hogs at the throwback game.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TAMUK basketball is ready to roll out the vintage uniforms and run up that scoreboard.
