{"id":3761,"date":"2020-03-27T23:30:47","date_gmt":"2020-03-27T23:30:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=3761"},"modified":"2020-03-27T23:31:08","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T23:31:08","slug":"first-case-of-covid-19-reported-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2020\/03\/27\/first-case-of-covid-19-reported-here\/","title":{"rendered":"First case of COVID-19 reported here"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Stay-at-home order for Kleberg County <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid announced a stay-at-home\norder effective 11:59pm on Friday, March 27 and continuing until April 8 at\n11:59 p.m. in efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order encourages Kleberg residents to stay at home,\nunless deemed necessary. The announcement came one day before a man tested\npositive in Kingsville for COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order states: \u201cAll individuals anywhere in the Kleberg County,\nTexas, to shelter at their place of residence, except for essential activities\nand essential business.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All businesses who are not considered essential businesses\nare to end any activities engaging in their facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Essential businesses include healthcare operations and\ngovernment functions. Restaurants may provide takeout, delivery and drive-thru\nservices to abide with the order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The order allows residents to leave their home for essential\nactivity only. Essential activities include: obtaining medical supplies or\nvisiting a healthcare provider, grocery shopping or obtaining any materials\nneeded for the maintenance of the residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with the stay-at-home order, a curfew has been placed at\nKleberg County beaches. All beaches within the county will now be closing at 8 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>County officials with other government entities are\ncollaborating in efforts to maintain the health of Kleberg County and keep it a\nsafe environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is the hardest decision I\u2019ve ever had to make as your\nKleberg County judge,\u201d Madrid said. \u201cI can tell you I\u2019m going to stand behind\nthis order. I\u2019m going to stand side by side with the mayor of Kingsville Sam\nFugate on this order. This order promotes personal responsibility, personal\nresponsibility that is going to ensure the safety of our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The local testing site, Dick Kleberg Park, has administered\n12 COVID-19 tests, all have been negative, according to the press conference\nThursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The community is expected to comply with social distancing\nguidelines when leaving their home for essential activities and to limit\ntravel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) there are\n1,396 positive cases diagnosed with COVID-19 in Texas.
