{"id":3764,"date":"2020-03-27T23:54:30","date_gmt":"2020-03-27T23:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=3764"},"modified":"2020-03-27T23:54:39","modified_gmt":"2020-03-27T23:54:39","slug":"first-case-of-covid-19-confirmed-in-kingsville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2020\/03\/27\/first-case-of-covid-19-confirmed-in-kingsville\/","title":{"rendered":"First case of COVID-19 confirmed in Kingsville"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Kleberg County Judge Rudy Madrid Friday confirmed the first\npositive case of COVID-19 in Kingsville just a day after enforcing a\nstay-at-home order. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, this morning both the city mayor and myself\nreceived word from a local hospital that there had been a confirmed case of\nCOVID-19 virus in the city of Kingsville,\u201d Madrid said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>City officials said the case is being considered traveled\nrelated. The cased involves a man in his 40s or 50s who traveled to and from Waco,\nTexas, to Kingsville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victim remained in quarantine during his time of\nevaluation until his symptoms required immediate medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis gentlemen did the right thing, when he got sick he\nquarantined himself and stayed their for six days\u2026he went into the emergency\nroom because he needed help,\u201d Mayor Sam Fugate said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The victim has been transferred to a local hospital in\nCorpus Christi where he remains in isolation and is receiving proper medical\ncare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With COVID-19 is on the rise there is a severe shortage of\npersonal protective equipment (PPE). The Texas Department of Health Safety has\nissued a time change in remote testing cities in order to maximize the use of\nequipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Testing cites will now only be open on Tuesday and Thursday\nfrom 9 to 11 a.m. and an appointment will be required.
