A son, a brother and member of the Javelina family, George P. Floyd, 46, died Monday, May 25, after being handcuffed and pinned to the ground by a white police officer who pressed his knee on Floyd\u2019s neck for several minutes despite Floyd pleading that he was unable to breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Floyd attended Texas A&M University-Kingsville from 1995 to 1996 and part of 1997, university officials confirmed. Throughout his time at Javelina Nation, Floyd became well known amongst the football team. Floyd\u2019s death has caused outrage throughout the nation and sparked riots and protests against Minneapolis police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
USA TODAY reported that members of the community marched down the streets of South Minneapolis with grief and anger following Floyd\u2019s death. Protestors ignited buildings, broke windows and looted a nearby Target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to The Washington Post, The University of Minnesota announced that it will no longer be contracting with the Minneapolis Police Department to provide additional law enforcement support for specialized services for any events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The four officers involved in Floyd\u2019s murder have been fired as of Tuesday and await to court hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe would be alive if he were white,\u201d Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey said during an interview with CBS NEWS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
