Fall competition for 2020 will be postponed due to the challenges of COVID-19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Lone Star Conference Council of Presidents made the decision as of Aug. 7 and followed with the cancelation of the NCAA Division II Fall 2020 Championships. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Javelina cross country, golf and tennis teams were given permission to continue with their seasons, but they must follow extensive protocols, as each team is viewed as low contact risk sports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Steve Roach, Executive Director of Athletics and Campus Recreation, speaks openly about the challenges COVID-19 has brought. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs with everything else this pandemic has created, it has been a real challenge,\u201d Roach said. \u201cWe are currently working as a conference to develop spring competition schedules for these sport programs.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coaches do not feel the decision to postpone fall competition was ideal, but understand everyone\u2019s health is the main priority. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mike Salinas, Head Football Coach, weighed in on the conferences\u2019 decision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis decision to cancel fall competition for football was not ideal and was disappointing to share with our players,\u201d Salinas told Javelina Athletics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tanya Allen, Head Women\u2019s Volleyball Coach, feels mutual towards the decision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are trying to remain positive and focus on using this time to grow our team,\u201d Allen said. \u201cThe unknown, the lack of control, and the disruption to daily routines is very difficult for everyone on campus.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In moving forward, the Lone Star Conference and NCAA Board of Governors will continue to determine what is best for the safety of their student-athletes, coaches and staff members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
