The Book Nook is the latest addition to the SUB and makes grabbing a good story quick and easy for all on campus.

The idea was introduced by student activities assistant director Loreal Robertson. “Book Nooks or Leave One Take One libraries have been around for some time. I’ve seen these libraries in the common room at apartments/condos, coffee shops and a variety of other places…I love reading as it expands your knowledge, perspectives and is a great escape from reality. There’s a book about almost everything and anything you want to learn or know” said Robertson. Students can go to the book nook and take a book they wish to read and then return it when they are finished or leave one in it’s place.

Although the book nook is still brand new students have already gotten excited and are making plans to use it. “I at first thought that they added tables and comfy chairs for students to eat but then I saw the shelf full of books! It took me by surprise” senior Carol Escorza said. “I know I will want to have a nice coffee there with my friends when the cold weather gets here.”

Other students have found out about the book nook through social media. “I found out about the book nook from a friend. They saw it on Instagram and shared it with me” sophomore Araceli Mireles said. “ I will definitely stop by when I have some extra time on my hands. I think it’s a great idea.”

Students can donate as many books as they would like however there is an important guideline. “Novels are preferred. We ask that no textbooks, encyclopedia’s, magazines or any other reading material of the sort be placed on the shelf.” Robertson said.

It’s up to Javelinas to grow the book shelf so that more books and knowledge can be shared around campus. “I hope that it will increase students, faculty and staff to read beyond the classroom and within their respective disciplines. Ultimately, the University is a space conducive for learning. This Book Nook promotes reading and literacy throughout campus which supports an environment of education. Reading brings me so much joy and I want this Book Nook to extend joy to others in the same manner.” Robertson said.

The Book Nook is located in the SUB.
