{"id":4764,"date":"2020-11-13T18:29:19","date_gmt":"2020-11-13T18:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/?p=4764"},"modified":"2020-11-13T18:29:19","modified_gmt":"2020-11-13T18:29:19","slug":"javelina-football-back-in-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thesouthtexan.com\/index.php\/2020\/11\/13\/javelina-football-back-in-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Javelina football back in action"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>Blue and gold given permission to take the field in regular practice schedule<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Javelina football has been given the green light to resume football practice and conditioning after being delayed for two consecutive weeks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head Coach Michael Salinas and the Javelina football team are ready to get back to work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two weeks ago, a\u00a0practice on a Thursday was cancelled abruptly due to a spike in COVID-19 cases across the campus. This resulted in Salinas sending his players home just as practice was about to begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, it\u2019s been a\u00a0process to get back on\u00a0the field as COVID-19 cases amongst players and the student body as a whole has brought cause for concern to university leaders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Austin Perez, newcomer for the Javelinas, said they will take the weeks as they come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe clearly want to begin practice as normal but we cannot place blame on one certain person for this outbreak,\u201d\u00a0Perez said. \u201cAs a team we must prepare for the weeks that lie ahead. Always one step ahead of\u00a0our competitors.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of the end of last&nbsp;week, athletes had no&nbsp;update on what\u2019s to&nbsp;come, a third week of no&nbsp;practice means no play is imminent for Javelinas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salinas has expressed to his players the importance of staying ready because they will never know when the green light will be given and that day could be any day of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with this\u00a0though, he heavily expresses the importance of safety towards his\u00a0team and staff and the\u00a0safety measures that need to be taken to make sure everyone remains in good health and so that they Javelinas can\u00a0make it back to the field\u00a0before the Thanksgiving\u00a0break, which is in two\u00a0weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alec Gonzalez, linebacker for the Javelinas,\u00a0said he is unsure what will come of this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne week you think everything is running\u00a0smoothly, only to find\u00a0yourself and teammates being told we are not allowed to resume practice,\u201d Gonzalez said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think as a team we can only do so much. It is important for our entire staff and other programs to practice guidelines as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The loss of two weeks of practice has been cause for concern leaving only two more weeks to get anything worked out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have no control over the events that will\u00a0take place in our life,\u00a0and we won\u2019t directly control the outcome at times. But we always have control over how we choose to respond to adversity.
