Javelina football\u00a0kicks off for the first time in over<\/em> a year<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Feb. 23, Head Coach Michael Salinas and the Javelina Football team took the field\u00a0in a scrimmage against RPA College after a delay pushed the game back from Feb. 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This game was placed to test team chemistry and effort on the way to a March 6 matchup against Midwestern State, the first of twogames to be played in this unorthodox spring season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scrimmage took place at Javelina Stadium and it was the first day of competition for the football team since Nov. 16, 2019, which marked the end of a disappointing 2-9 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The contest was a game for broomsticks as the Javelinas jumped to an early 35-0 lead as the Hogs swept RPA College off the field with an 87-0 final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Long Snapper Clay Engelhardt, an All-Conference selection a year ago, said it was a good scrimmage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a good test to see where we are at asateamandseewhat we need to improve for Midwestern,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last contest against Midwestern resulted in a loss of 70- 35 in Wichita Falls, and now over a year later the Javelinas are set to return with a new staff and a new mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a year\u2019s wait for competition, the new coaching staff is ready to make an impact on the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are excited to get back on the field and take advantage of the opportunities we get,\u201d said John Cotton, assistant defensive line coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a tough run of luck with COVID-19, Javelina football will return this weekend in Wichita Falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am ecstatic to step\u00a0on the field against another opponent other than our own team. The last time we stepped on\u00a0thefieldagainstateamin our conference it was 2019.
