Second-year students of Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) are invited to a social event that will help aid them with their college careers and life. This event is called \u201cJavelina Squared,\u201d and it will take place on Friday, Sept. 10 at the Javelina Student Engagement Center. An information fair will be held at this event. Students will participate in learning about Honors College, Undergraduate Research, International programs and service learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Along with the fair, students will be offered a selection of food from various area restaurants. A DJ will be present, as well as karaoke. TAMUK\u2019s band will also be stopping by to play a few songs. Games will also be offered, and prizes will be awarded to winners of the games. At the end of the event, students will take a walk to the Javelina statues. This is where a bubble release will take place to symbolize letting go of the hard times during freshman year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Associate Vice President for Student Success Dr. Shannon Baker shared her feelings on Javelina Squared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are particularly excited to host the event this year, since quite a few of our second-year students did not get to experience campus life last year,\u201d Baker said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With COVID-19 still being a factor on campus, student health is a concern. Masks will highly be encouraged to wear during this event. Most of this event will be taking place outdoors. Baker encourages students to come out to this event and is excited for it to take place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to TAMUK\u2019s Center for Student Success, third-year students are also invited to Javelina Squared. Since COVID-19 caused the campus to shut down last year, this event was not held. Therefore, those students were not able to attend this event since it is held every year for second-year students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
